The UN OCHA’s Regional Office for Southern and Eastern Africa (ROSEA) in collaboration with the Botswana Defense Forces (BDF) is pleased to invite you to the United Nations Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination (UN CMCoord) training course that will be held from 14-19 December 2025, in Gaborone, Botswana. The BDF are generously covering the training venue, board, and accommodation for the duration of the course. We kindly ask your organization to take care of travel, including any visa requirements and applicable allowances.

This residential course is designed for military personnel, humanitarian practitioners, and state and humanitarian donor agencies to deepen their understanding of humanitarian principles and civil–military coordination mechanisms applicable in armed conflicts and natural disasters.

The objective of the training course is to a) define the concept of humanitarian civil-military coordination (UN-CMCoord), including the five sets of UN-CMCoord guidance, b) assess the UN-CMCoord environment in various operational contexts, and c) understand and support UN-CMCoord efforts related to humanitarian access and protection outcomes in complex emergencies and natural disasters. The course offers participants practical knowledge in humanitarian action with real scenarios, to foster collaborative decision-making processes. The aim is to develop skilled civilian and military practitioners, capable of effectively coordinating and collaborating to support efforts to protect humanitarian access and humanitarian space in emergencies.

We encourage applications from military personnel working in operations, logistics, or CIMIC functions, and humanitarian field staff, especially from the Southern Africa region. Prior experience in humanitarian emergency response is an asset.
