The Advanced learning programme is designed for professionals and emerging talents seeking to enter, reposition themselves within, or advance in the United Nations and global development ecosystem.

The programme is distinguished by the adoption of the 3D Career Model (Define – Detect – Develop), an integrated and practice-oriented framework that combines strategic career management, labour market intelligence, and targeted professional development.

  • a career-centred approach, addressing both entry and transition phases;
  • strong emphasis on applied tools and actionable methodologies;
  • explicit focus on career repositioning during periods of sectoral crisis and contraction;
  • an intergenerational design that brings together early-career professionals and mid-/senior-level practitioners.

Course target

The programme is intended for:

  • early-career professionals and sponsored young talents aiming to enter the UN system, government institutions, or international development organisations;
  • professionals currently working in International Organizations, NGOs, governmental or multilateral institutions who seek to strengthen their career management skills;
  • mid-level professionals interested in career transition, re-profiling, or sectoral mobility within the global development ecosystem.

Training objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse labour market dynamics within the UN and global development sector.

The course aims to:

  1. Provide advanced tools for career self-assessment and strategic positioning (Define).
  2. Develop skills for labour market intelligence and opportunity analysis (Detect).
  3. Strengthen competencies in career planning and professional branding in international contexts.
  4. Improve effectiveness in application strategies and professional networking.
  5. Support career re-profiling and transition processes for both early- and mid-career professionals.

Teaching methods

The programme adopts a practice-based and learner-centred teaching methodology, characterised by a balanced combination of traditional lectures and interactive training techniques.

In particular, the methodology includes:

  • simulation exercises focused on real-life career decision-making scenarios;
  • case study analysis drawn from the global development and International Organizations sector;
  • guided problem-solving activities, both individual and group-based;
  • practical applications of career management tools and methodologies.

Course programme

Day 1 – Defining Career Strategy in a Contracting Global Development Sector:

  • Interactive lectures introducing the Define phase of the 3D Career Model
  • Guided self-assessment exercises (career drivers, values, constraints, adaptability)
  • Case study analysis of early-career and mid-/senior-level UN career trajectories

Day 2 – Detecting Labour Market Signals, Career Risks and Opportunity Windows:

  • Lecture on UN and global development labour market trends
  • Analysis of real vacancy data, contract modalities, and career patterns
  • Applied exercises on translating skills into employable value propositions

Day 3 – Developing Career Capital, Employability and Strategic Repositioning:

  • Practice-oriented lectures introducing the Develop phase of the 3D Career Model
  • Career development laboratories (CVs, profiles, and narratives for UN and IO contexts)
  • Role-play and simulations (career transitions, re-profiling, career conversations)

Fee information

The Course registration fee is set at € 3.200 for those registering by 16 June 2026, and at € 3.500 for those registering by 21 July 2026 and includes participation in all lessons, teaching materials and lunch at the Scuola’s canteen for the three days of classes.
