Call for Applications is Now Open !

43rd edition of the International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP)

Bangkok, Thailand

November 1-13 , 2026

Greetings from Equitas!

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the 43rd edition of the International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP) 2026!

The IHRTP is a globally recognized, intensive training program designed to deepen participants’ knowledge of human rights and equip them with practical tools and strategies that can be applied across diverse contexts. Using a participatory learning approach, the program fosters dynamic exchanges among a diverse group of human rights educators and defenders, facilitators, and experts from around the world contributing to the strengthening of movements for human rights and social justice.

But the IHRTP is more than just a training:

  • It is the only training in the world specifically dedicated to capacity building and support for human rights educators.
  • It is a convening space where civil society, national human rights institutions, regional and international bodies, and governments come together.
  • It is a unique platform to build regional, national, and international networks.
  • It is a moment to forge collaborative partnerships amplifying efforts for real change.

For over four decades, thousands of human rights defenders from more than 140 countries have come together, through the IHRTP, not only to strengthen their understanding of human rights but also to learn from each other’s experiences, strategies, and struggles.

Join us for the 43rd edition — A Historic Milestone: Heading to Bangkok

For the first time in forty years, the IHRTP is reaching a major milestone by being held outside of Canada. Holding this edition in Bangkok, Thailand, reflects Equitas’ commitment to engaging more closely with regional realities and revitalizing its pedagogical approach.

In November 2026, we will be pleased to welcome approximately 100 human rights defenders from 50 countries for an inspiring new edition. To maximize the accessibility and impact of the training, the program is moving to a hybrid format: a preparatory online phase followed by two intensive weeks in person, from November 1 to 13, 2026.

Equitas is a Canadian non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1967 dedicated to the promotion of human rights through education in Canada and around the world. For more information about our activities, please visit our website at www.equitas.org.
