Why engage in Monitoring & Evaluation in Peacebuilding?
- The very nature of conflict means that the time-scale for evaluating change is measured in years and decades rather than days and months. This means it requires rigorous engagement in M & E.
- Peacebuilding work often takes place in dynamic contexts. M & E provides key insights into what changed and therefore what needs to change in the programming.
- Peacebuilding work is qualitative in nature, it therefore requires innovative tools to measure success
- Without M & E, it becomes difficult to isolate the impact or outcomes of specific interventions from the complex political, economic and social contexts in which peacebuilding activities take place
- The peacebuilding practice is unique in that the world over, there is no universal way of building peace or transforming conflicts. M & E provides the opportunity to learn from our practice and to improve on it.
